Actually Wagner did not coin the term "gesamtkunstwerk". It was first used by German philosopher, Karl Trahndorff. However Wagner's concept of gesamtkunstwerk is what most of society is familiar with.

I know I'm a few years late to the conversation, but I was browsing film and gesamtkunstwerk and came across the blog entry and thought I would respond. :)

Better late than never. Thanks for the pickup Jennifer.

Also, I'd be very curious to know what prompted browsing of that kind.
