The logo design for my podcast is now complete! I wanted to evoke certain aspects of the Maryland flag, being that the series is based in Baltimore. I don't know if this comes across well, but the top half is supposed to mimic the gold and black checkerboard pattern and the bottom half is a nod to the red and white portions of the flag.
I wanted to make the logo legible from a very small scale, so I went with having the N and the D emphasized first and foremost. Since this is going to be published on the FMS podcast channel, clarity was a central concern of mine. Normally icons like these are very small, so I chose contrasting colors for the other parts of the title.
Initially, I had more negative space on the bottom left. While I was in the process of designing this, (and having the stage play of The Phantom of the Opera in the background, that play is one of my absolute favorites) my boyfriend and my mom were arguing on whether having something to accent the white more was needed or not. My mother was staunchly for having the corner be left white, but my boyfriend was strongly advocating having that patch of grey. In the end, I went with the grey not to please my boyfriend or anything, but because the way I had made the grey patch actually made the yellow a bit darker as well, which I liked since it highlighted the rest of "Note-able" quite nicely.
Usually I would design things like this in a vector program like Adobe Illustrator, but seeing as I could not find my drawing tablet pen for my laptop, I used a program called Adobe Draw for the iPad Pro. While the file size is adequately large, being originally 2100 x 2100 px, technically if something should need more of a flexible image in terms of sharpness for all pixel requirements, a vector would be better. But, seeing as this is not going to be on any large posters or anything, I figured that this would be more than suitable for my needs for sure. It was actually quite nice to take a break from editing audio to do this, being that I do find graphic design like this to be very enjoyable indeed. Picking up the Apple Pencil to do this put me in a really creative mindset, no doubt about it.
Anyhow, hope that this design is eye-catching and fun! Be on the lookout for links for the completed episodes as I finish editing them.
