Rex (Youjian) Xiao is a junior double majoring in Film and Media Studies (Screenwriting Track) and Writing Seminars with minors in Visual Arts and East Asian Studies. Originally from Canton, China, Rex believes that storytelling has the power to transcend regional and cultural boundaries. A writer, filmmaker, and part-time photographer, Rex wants to explore shared themes of the humanities, such as love, shame, memory, and gender, through his works, and by doing so to better understand himself and the world. At school, Rex has been an active member of Studio North, a student-run film company, where he serves as the co-chair of the screenwriting committee and assists with various film projects. Most recently, he attended the Writing Seminars Summer Abroad Program in Rome, where he gained a great deal of artistic inspiration and couldn't wait to share his stories through future works. In addition to English, Rex also speaks Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese.
